The Ben Milam Bldg. in San Antonio was the first fully air-conditioned high-rise office building in the world. The St. Anthony Hotel, three blocks away, was the first air-conditioned hotel. The Nix Professional Bldg (2 blocks from the hotel) was the first air-conditioned hospital and the first building to house a hospital, doctor's offices, laboratories, a parking garage and a minor emergency clinic under one roof. The Nix is the birthplace of Carol Burnett (actress), Oliver North (Lt. Col. USMNC, RET), George Strait (country music superstar) and Henry Cisneros (former San Antonio mayor and HUD Secretary).
